Collin pulled into the parking lot of Fashion Island, which was essentially a huge, two-story strip mall in the shape of a circle with all of the stores facing the center and the parking lot on the outside. It was by far one of the main points of interest in Newport Beach. Collin saw Kelsey ride by in a silver BMW and park a few spaces down from her as she put the top up on the tiny convertible.
"Hey." Kelsey was still dressed in light green scrubs and black sneakers. "Hope you don't mind my attire."
"No, I think you look cute in scrubs." Collin grinned.
"Thanks." Kelsey smiled, blushing slightly. She has the sexiest grin and when those blue eyes lock on you... She cleared her throat, forcing the thoughts from her head.
They walked through the entrance to the inside circle of shops and took the escalator up to the second floor. Martin's Espresso Café was located across from the escalator upstairs. The inside seating was fairly busy with early evening shoppers, so they carried their drinks to a table outside on the veranda.
Collin sipped from her hazelnut mocha, while Kelsey nursed her green tea. They people watched as the crowd moved along in front of them. Various men and women strutted along carrying bags, some with kids in tow, but most of them were alone.
"Thanks for meeting me. I was in the mood for coffee before I went home to a quiet house." Collin looked over at Kelsey. She felt the corners of her mouth tugging at her to smile.
"I had called to see how you were, but this is even better," Kelsey said, smiling back.
"I'm fine," Collin replied.
"Is Lisa working late?"
"No, she's in Santa Barbara, until Thursday I think."
Kelsey wrinkled her nose. "That sucks. Does she travel much?"
Collin rolled her eyes. "She's gone just about every other week. But, she's making ungodly amounts of money and enjoys what she does."
"Does it bother you?" Kelsey asked quietly.
"At first it didn't. I was so busy with the new law firm, not that I'm not busy now, but I guess I didn't notice as much a year ago, you know." Collin took a long hot sip of her coffee and crossed her legs at her ankles. She honestly didn't remember Lisa traveling anywhere near as much a year ago. "Her business has grown tremendously."
"Yeah, Mich never traveled, then all of a sudden she started taking contracts out of town this year. Sometimes, she's only home on the weekends, but lately there have been many weekends that she's been too busy to come home. I know how frustrating it can be." She sipped her tea. "I'm used to only seeing her on the weekends and maybe once or twice a week nowadays."
"I'm sure you work pretty odd hours at the hospital."
"Yes, I'm on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. I get called out of bed at least once a week, but generally I'm at the hospital seeing patients on a regular basis Monday through Friday.
